Columbia University Class of '27 Admissions Roundup

For the Class of 2027, Columbia University has admitted 2,246 students from a pool of 57,129 for a 3.9% overall acceptance rate. These numbers reflect a combination of both Early Decision and Regular Decision as Columbia does not differentiate between Early Decision and Regular Decision when they initially release their numbers.

That said, we do know that for Early Decision, the university received 5,738 applications, a 9% drop from last year’s 6,305. However, this year’s overall application pool of 57,129 is the third-largest application pool in the history of the university.

If you’ve been following the news, you’ll know that Columbia has had a rocky year. First, it was noted that the information provided to U.S. News and World Report for their annual rankings was found to be inaccurate by one of Columbia’s own professors! When this information came to light, the university chose to pull out of the ranking system. However, in a surprise turn of events, U.S. News ranked Columbia anyway using third-party data. Their ranking fell from the NO. 2 position to NO. 18.

Watching all of this unfold, we were curious to see what would happen with admissions this year. Early Decision applications were down, but as you can see from the overall acceptance rate, the university is still as competitive as ever! If you plan to apply to Columbia, and we cannot stress this enough, apply Early Decision! Your chances only improve by applying in this round.

Fun Facts:

  • Originally called King’s College, the university was the fifth of the first nine colleges chartered in the American Colonies! And Columbia Medical School was the second medical school established in the American Colonies, and the first ever to award an M.D. degree.

  • The Pulitzer Prize, one of the most prestigious writing and journalism awards in the country, is administered by the university!
