Ivy Day 2026

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UPenn.. schools you’ve spent years working toward, shaping your classes, activities, and applications around, often with the goal of being admitted to some of the most selective universities in the world. Ivy Day is when most Ivy League schools release their Regular Decision results, typically on the same day—this year, March 26, 2026.

By this point, the applications are complete, and the decisions have already been made. What remains is finding out where you stand.

Why are decisions released on the same day?

There’s no formal rule that requires Ivy League schools to release decisions together, but over time, it has become a consistent practice. If one school were to release decisions earlier, it could influence how students respond to other offers—some may commit early, withdraw applications, or shift their decisions before seeing all outcomes. Releasing decisions at the same time avoids that and keeps the process more balanced across the applicant pool.

Where did Ivy Day come from?

Ivy Day didn’t start with admissions portals.

It began as a campus tradition. Each year, graduating students would place an ivy stone on school grounds, engraved to represent their class. It marked the end of their time at the university and their place within a longer history. Students would gather, give speeches, and walk through campus before commencement, reflecting on their experience and the classes that came before them. That tradition is where the name comes from.

What should you expect this year?

There’s no way to predict an individual result, but there are a few broader shifts shaping this admissions cycle.

Not all Ivy League schools are releasing the same level of admissions data, with some choosing to publish less information around acceptance rates and applicant pools. At the same time, application volume across highly selective schools remains high, with more students applying across both Ivy League and other top institutions.

There are also ongoing changes in how applications are evaluated, including shifts in international applicant patterns and evolving policies around legacy admissions. These factors continue to shape how decisions are made.

What should you expect on Ivy Day?

By the time Ivy Day arrives, there’s nothing left to submit or revise. The result is already decided. You might be admitted. You might be waitlisted. You might not get the outcome you were hoping for.

If you’re admitted, you’re choosing between options. If you’re waitlisted, you’re deciding whether to stay in the process. If you’re denied, you’re moving forward with the options in front of you. At Ivy Link, we work with students through this stage—helping them understand where they stand and what their next steps are.
