Test-Optional 2023

Frequent readers of the Ivy Link blog will know that, most of the top schools, including the eight Ivies, all went test-optional due to testing restrictions during the height of COVID. As we sit firmly in the third year of the pandemic, most schools have not gone back. So for those students looking to apply to college in this coming application cycle, you should know that almost all of the top U.S. colleges are remaining test-optional. The two exceptions to this are Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Georgetown University. Both of these schools require test scores as part of the application process.

As we’ve stated several times before, and will continue to state again: even if the school to which you plan to apply is test-optional, we highly recommend taking either the SAT or the ACT. Even though the school may not require the test, they are still more likely to consider you for admissions if you have strong test scores included with your application.  Test scores are one more element in your academic portfolio that will make you stand out against your competition. So make sure you take the test and score high!

If you need help with tutoring or test prep before your testing day, reach out to Ivy Link. We offer comprehensive 1:1 test preparation for both the SAT and ACT, including numerous full-length practice tests completed in simulated testing conditions. But don’t wait until it’s too late. Start early for best results!
