On March 20, the College Board released additional information about how they will address AP Exams during the COVID-19 outbreak.

AP Exams are still an important part of college admissions (even for 12th graders), and Ivy Link tutors have been working with students to prepare for the various AP subjects through online/remote tutoring. If you have not begun preparing for the AP Exams, we can help you get started. While the College Board is still addressing logistics and other issues, Ivy Link summarizes below the most important points we know right now:

  • No in-person exams. Traditional in-person AP Exams will not take place. Instead the exams will be administered online. These “streamlined exams” can be taken on any device, such as computer, tablet, smartphone.

  • Only 45 minutes. Another big change here! Instead of lasting the usual 3-hour plus, the 2019-2020 school year AP Exams will be only 45 minutes in duration!

  • Covers less material. AP Exams will test only topics and skills that most teachers have covered through early March. The units that will be on the exam are detailed in the full posting by AP (APs Impacted by Coronavirus).

  • Only two dates. Each exam will have two exam dates, which have not yet been released. Additional details including full exam schedule and specific free-response questions will be available on April 3.

  • Support from colleges. Colleges are in support of this solution and are committed to still giving students credit for their success on AP exams.

Here is The College Board’s official announcement: AP Updates for Schools Impacted by Coronavirus. What is Ivy Link's recommendation to our students? For those of you who have taken the AP Exams, they're usually lengthy and difficult. However, given the unprecedented situation we're in, the exams will be much shorter and easier than usual. Ivy Link has advised its students to prepare for and take the AP Exams this year. Many of our students already have! If you haven't read our post on the importance of AP Exams, then check out Advice on AP Exams.
