Workshop For Parents & Students: How Colleges Really Read Applications

Learn to Make a Massive Impact in One Critical Area

Colleges consider a students entire record from 9th grade onward, and yet, so many families make the mistake of waiting until 11th grade to begin planning. After over two decades of advising students, Adam Nguyen — a Harvard Law and Columbia grad, former reader in Columbia's Office of Admissions, and Ivy Link's Founder — has developed a time-tested method to help hundreds of students gain admissions to the Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, and other top colleges . Using years of data, Adam will share insights on attributes of successful applicants, costly mistakes during the admissions process, key factors that make or break a student's admissions chances, and what admissions officers don't discuss publicly. Parents and students in Grades 7-11 will learn how to build the components of a successful application. Topics include:

  • What gets an applicant noticed by admissions officers?

  • Are colleges looking for “well-rounded” students?

  • What do colleges want to see in the essays?

  • What can my child do now? When is it too late?

  • Which is weighed more: grades or test scores?

  • What makes a recommendation effective and how to obtain them?

  • How many times should a student take the SAT or ACT? What is a good score?

  • Should a student take the AP Exams?

The interactive workshop includes Q&A. Attendees are encouraged to submit their questions beforehand.
