ISEE, SSAT & SHSAT

ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam)

The ISEE is a three-hour entrance exam used by many independent schools and magnet schools. There are three different ISEE exams, each testing verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics and essay writing:

  • Lower Level: for admission to grades 5-6
  • Middle Level: for admission to grades 7-8
  • Upper Level: for admission to grades 9-12

SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test)

The SSAT is a two-part entrance exam used by many private secondary schools and magnet schools. The exam consists of an essay portion and a multiple-choice section that tests the student in mathematics, English and reading comprehension. Like the ISEE, the SSAT is administered on different levels:
